What is part load (less than truckload) shipping?

Part load shipping, also called less than truckload or LTL, is for goods that need only part of a truck. Your shipment shares a Dyna with other shipments going the same way, so the cost of the trip is split. It suits a few pallets of stock, cartons for another branch or a customer order in another city.

Part loads work well for online shops sending stock to another city, suppliers topping up a branch and workshops sending spare parts. Enter the cities, the class, the weight and the size, and the price appears straight away.

If your goods weigh more than 3,000 kg, need the whole truck, or must travel alone on a direct trip, a full truckload booking is the better fit.

How chargeable weight is calculated

The price of a part load depends on its chargeable kg and the distance between the cities, with a minimum charge for small shipments. The booking form works out the chargeable weight for you and shows the price, VAT included, before you confirm.

Light but bulky goods take up truck space, so chargeable weight is the higher of the actual weight and the volume weight. Volume weight is the volume in cubic metres multiplied by 250 kg. For example:

• 200 kg of goods that fill 0.5 m³: the volume weight is 125 kg, so you pay for 200 kg.
• 120 kg of goods that fill 1.2 m³: the volume weight is 300 kg, so you pay for 300 kg.

Dry and chilled part load shipping

Choose the Dry class for cartons, spare parts, retail stock and other general cargo. Choose the Chilled class for goods that must stay cool, such as food and dairy.

Pack your goods well and label every piece, because they share the truck with other shipments. You pay the driver in cash or by bank transfer, and you can cancel online for free until a driver is assigned.
