FTL shipping in Saudi Arabia means booking a whole truck for one shipper's cargo: no shared space and no stops for other customers' goods. It is the go-to option for distributors, factories, e-commerce sellers restocking a warehouse and anyone moving a full load between cities. This guide explains how full truckload works in the Kingdom, which trucks are used, how prices are calculated and what paperwork you need.
What is FTL (full truckload) shipping?
Full truckload (FTL) is a road freight service in which you rent the entire cargo space of a truck for one trip. The truck collects your goods, drives to the destination and unloads them there. Nobody else's cargo is on board.
The alternative is less-than-truckload (LTL), also called part load or shared truck shipping, where several customers share one truck and each pays only for their own space. Part loads are consolidated on the lane, so time windows are wider.
In everyday Saudi business language, FTL is often simply "booking a Dyna" for a trip. If you are still deciding, read our FTL vs LTL comparison.
When should you choose a full truckload?
A dedicated truck is the right tool in many common situations:
- Your cargo fills a large part of the truck, by weight or by volume. Paying for the whole truck is then simpler and often better value than paying per kilo.
- The goods are fragile or high value. They stay in one truck from pickup to delivery, with fewer hands touching the cartons.
- Timing matters. The truck moves on your schedule instead of waiting for other shipments to fill a shared route.
- You need temperature control for a whole load. A refrigerated Dyna dedicated to your products avoids extra door openings for other customers.
- The shipment is above the part-load limit. On WusoolX, part loads go up to 3,000 kg; anything heavier should be booked as a full truck.
Truck types used for FTL shipping in Saudi Arabia
Saudi cargo transport runs on a few familiar vehicle classes:
| Truck type | Typical capacity | Common uses |
|---|---|---|
| Dyna (light truck) | about 4–6 tonnes | City and intercity deliveries, retail stock, appliances, furniture |
| 10-wheeler ("lorry") | typically 10 tonnes or more | Heavier palletised goods, construction materials, distributor stock |
| Trailer (تريلا) | the largest loads, often 20 tonnes and above | Containers, steel, factory and port loads, long-haul bulk |
| Refrigerated truck | depends on the chassis | Food, dairy, medicines, flowers |
Capacities vary by model and configuration, so confirm the real payload before loading.
The Dyna is the workhorse of Saudi logistics: big enough for a meaningful load, yet small enough to reach shops, villas and warehouses inside the city. WusoolX focuses on this class and offers three FTL options:
- Dyna Dry 5T: a closed box truck for general cargo.
- Dyna Dry 6T: a closed box truck for heavier loads.
- Dyna Reefer 5T: a refrigerated truck set to chilled (+2 to +8 °C) or frozen (down to −18 °C).
Compare them on the vehicles page. For cold-chain loads, see our guide to refrigerated truck transport in Saudi Arabia.
How FTL pricing works
Most trucking companies in the Kingdom price a full truck by the trip, not by the kilo. On WusoolX the formula is transparent:
- a base fare for the truck type,
- plus a per-kilometre rate multiplied by the road distance,
- with a minimum fare for very short trips.
Popular city pairs have fixed lane prices, and the 15% VAT is shown before you confirm, so you see the full amount before you commit.
Because you pay for the whole truck, your cost per kilo falls as you load more. A 5-tonne Dyna carrying 4.5 tonnes costs the same as one carrying 1 tonne, which is why FTL rewards well-planned, full loads.
Refrigerated trucks cost more than dry ones because of the cooling unit. Whatever you book, agree in advance who loads and unloads at each end.
Popular FTL lanes in Saudi Arabia
Key corridors link the capital with the Red Sea coast, the Eastern Province and Qassim. Prices below are live and include VAT.
| Lane | Approx. road distance | Dyna Dry 5T | Dyna Dry 6T |
|---|---|---|---|
| Riyadh → Jeddah | about 950 km | from SAR 2,216 | from SAR 2,216 |
| Riyadh → Dammam | about 400 km | from SAR 1,027 | from SAR 1,027 |
| Jeddah → Makkah | about 80 km | from SAR 288 | from SAR 322 |
| Riyadh → Buraidah | about 350 km | from SAR 852 | from SAR 852 |
| Jeddah → Madinah | about 420 km | from SAR 891 | from SAR 891 |
- Riyadh–Jeddah links the central distribution hub with Jeddah's port and the western region. It is a long day on the road, so agree a delivery slot in advance. See the Riyadh to Jeddah Dyna page.
- Riyadh–Dammam serves the industrial and port activity of the Eastern Province, with onward deliveries to Al Khobar and Al Jubail.
- Jeddah–Makkah is a short, high-frequency lane for retail, hospitality and seasonal supply. Check the current truck-access rules for Makkah, especially in the Hajj and Umrah peak periods.
- Riyadh–Qassim connects the capital with Buraidah and Unaizah, where dates, produce and wholesale goods move in both directions.
Planning, loading and paperwork
Good preparation makes FTL shipping in Saudi Arabia faster and cheaper, because the truck spends less time waiting and leaves fully loaded.
Loading tips for a full truckload
- Measure before you book. Know the total weight and roughly how many pallets or cartons you have. If you are close to the limit of a 5-tonne Dyna, choose the 6-tonne.
- Load for balance. Heavy items go at the bottom and spread across the floor, light items on top; strap or wrap anything loose.
- Prepare the loading point. Make sure the truck can park close by, with staff or a forklift ready.
- Check city truck-entry rules. Many Saudi cities restrict heavy-truck movement in certain zones at peak hours. Check the current municipal rules for both addresses.
- Pre-cool reefer loads. Load chilled or frozen goods already at their target temperature; a reefer is built to hold temperature, not to cool warm products quickly.
- Book early in busy seasons such as Ramadan, Eid and the Hajj season.
Paperwork: Bayan waybill, invoices and VAT
Road freight in the Kingdom is regulated by the Transport General Authority (TGA). Keep these documents in mind:
- Electronic waybill (Bayan). Bayan is the TGA platform for issuing electronic waybills for goods moved by road, recording the shipper, receiver, cargo, vehicle and driver. At the time of writing, a waybill is generally expected for each trip; check the latest TGA requirements.
- Commercial invoice or delivery note. Send a copy with the goods so the receiver can check quantities.
- Tax invoice. Freight services carry 15% VAT. VAT-registered businesses should keep a ZATCA-compliant e-invoice (Fatoora) for their records.
- Food and temperature-sensitive goods. The SFDA sets requirements for transporting food in suitable temperature-controlled vehicles. Check the current rules for your products.

Frequently asked questions
What does FTL mean in trucking?
FTL stands for full truckload. You book the entire truck for one trip, and only your goods are on board from pickup to delivery. It differs from LTL, or part load, where several customers share one truck and each pays for their own space. In Saudi Arabia, FTL for city and intercity trips is commonly done with Dyna trucks, while larger loads use 10-wheelers or trailers.
How much does a full truckload cost in Saudi Arabia?
The price depends mainly on the truck type and the road distance. On WusoolX, a full truck is priced as a base fare plus a per-kilometre rate multiplied by the distance, with a minimum fare, and popular city pairs have fixed lane prices. Refrigerated trucks cost more than dry ones. Enter your From and To cities on the booking page to see the instant price, including 15% VAT.
Do I need a Bayan waybill for an FTL shipment?
Bayan is the Transport General Authority's electronic waybill platform for road freight in Saudi Arabia. At the time of writing, a waybill is generally expected for goods moved by truck, recording the shipper, receiver, cargo, vehicle and driver. Requirements can change and may depend on the type of cargo, so check the latest TGA guidance and prepare accurate shipper and receiver details before the trip.
Can I book a refrigerated full truck?
Yes. WusoolX offers the Dyna Reefer 5T, which can run chilled at +2 to +8 °C or frozen down to −18 °C. It suits food, dairy, produce and other temperature-sensitive products. Load goods already at their target temperature, agree the setting before pickup, and check current SFDA requirements for transporting your product category. Reefer trips are priced separately from dry trucks.
Should I choose a 5-tonne or a 6-tonne Dyna?
Start with the total weight and the volume of your cargo. If the load sits comfortably within about 5 tonnes and fits the box, the Dyna Dry 5T is usually enough. If you are close to the limit, carry dense goods such as tiles, cement or beverages, or want spare margin, choose the Dyna Dry 6T. Never overload a truck: it is unsafe and can break traffic rules.
